Mercury Retrograde

About three times a year the planet Mercury slows in orbit and assumes apparent
retrograde motion. In other words, it seems to go backwards. As a result, many
things associated with Mercury often suffer setbacks, delays, cancellations or
revisions. This cycle lasts for about three weeks. Since Mercury has rulership over
all forms of communication, written and oral - this is not the time to sign contracts, agreements, leases, legal documents or anything else of importance.

During this cycle even the most ordinary conversation can result in misunderstanding
or confusion about the subject matter. It is advisable to make every effort to clearly
state your intent. Since Mercury is the planet associated with the decision-making
process you can imagine the confusion during this time period. Often a decision
made during a retrograde period will be revisited at a later date. It is, however, a
good time to re-consider all options pertaining to what you want to accomplish then
wait until Mercury is direct to make a final decision. If you have to proceed during a
Mercury retrograde cycle wait for a good day when the Moon is making positive
aspects but expect to make changes to your original plan once Mercury turns direct.

Mercury's rulership extends to travel, communications equipment, hardware and
other mechanical devices like automobiles. It is not unusual to experience problems
with equipment during this cycle. It is best to delay the purchase or installation of
any new equipment until Mercury is direct. If you find it necessary to travel during
this cycle, reconfirm all travel arrangements and reservations. It’s a good idea to
have a backup plan.
